COHO Design is a new type of housing project based on an old idea. As land values continue to rise, housing affordability is becoming a thing of the past. COHO Design promotes the concept of "intentional community" by colocating four 1 bedroom dwellings together with a shared common room in a single building. It is designed as a two storey form occupying only 50% of a traditional 450sqm suburban block, leaving the remainder for landscape, food gardens, swimming pool, water tanks and alfresco dining area.
COHO Design is being promoted to Councils for low density sites, as the height and bulk is no more than a standard two storey residence that might sit alongside. This is not institutional living, nor social housing but a way for seniors in the community to afford a shared lifestyle as an alternative to aged care facilities or retirement villages.
