This house replaces a 1960's Sydney School dwelling which was very run down. To submit a new house application would have been too constricted by controls. Instead, by leaving one wall, we made it a very impressive alteration and addition.

It has 4 bedrooms including a separate master suite with ensuite, 2 extra bathrooms, a living/dining room, a home cinema and a kitchen/family room opening out to the refurbished pool.

The house looks like a masonry building but is of lightweight structure with polystyrene insulation cladding covered by render. It is thermally very efficient and the lightweight walls meant inexpensive foundations, saving money which was put to good use in finishes and fittings.
